Weather Links

Updated 5 May 2008
Some rows give links to hourly or 3-hourly forecasts for Cambridge, of particular interest to Cam sailors, as they give wind direction & strength. The Environment Agency link shows up-to-date flood information for the CSC. At the bottom are links to the home pages of the Met Office and Weather Charts. Clickable links are on white backgrounds.   Remember forecasts aren't always accurate, especially the timing of changes.     . . . And, as any sailor knows, wind strength & direction can vary moment to moment and between places only a few yards apart!
Met Office forecast for Cambridge
5-day Cambridge forecast, 3-hourly for today and usually some of tomorrow, then 12-hourly. Shows wind strength & direction as well as gust strength. Also shows weather, temperature and visibility, as well as severe weather warnings and ultra-violet strength. For pressure and relative humidity forecasts for Cambridge, see BBC site, linked below here.
 BBC 24-hour forecast for Cambridge
Shows 3-hourly weather, temperature, wind strength & direction, visibility, pressure and relative humidity, for 24 hours. However, it's probably better to use the Met Office page (see above) unless you want pressure and relative humidity, because the BBC page doesn't seem to be kept as up to date as the Met Office page.
xcweather.co.uk
Wind map of the British Isles
Uses different size arrows for wind strength & direction over a UK map (France also available). Put your pointer over Cambridge arrow to see (to right of map) current wind strength & direction and for every 3 hours for nearly 6 days ahead! You can set it to show other weather information as well or instead. (Thanks to Richard Davies for pointing out this site.)
Windguru for Grafham Water
Shows detailed wind, wave and other information for coastal locations and a few inland waters. The logo link (left of this paragraph) is for wind and weather at Graham Water, the nearest I found to Cambridge. There's also a subscription service that gives more information. Windguru is a complex site and so it's worth reading the Introduction (the first item on Windguru's "Help/faq" menu).
Environment Agency
River Cam checked every 15 minutes for potential flooding at Grantchester, Cambridge, Milton, Waterbeach and Upware. Status can be: No Warning in Force/All Clear, Flood Watch, Flood Warning or Severe Flood Warning.
