Why we need a mailing list and how it will operate
We only have two postal mailings a year to all members, one in early spring for the newsletter, programme and subscription bill and the other in the autumn for the AGM notice. The list will allow us to communicate at other times with at least those members with email that register their consent to receiving it. Over time this will become the vast majority of members.
Recent occasions when the list would have been useful include explaining the foot-and-mouth disease precautions, informing members of the last minute cancellation of the Optimist Open because of the angling national final, information about the floods, and the changes of venue for the AGM 2001. It was used for the first time to remind members on the list of the changed venue for the Spring Get-together 2002.
In case you prefer not to receive these emails from the club, you won't receive them unless you've subscribed. If you do subscribe, your email address will be held on the server computer and we shan't pass it on to any third party. When you subscribe, your subscription email will be passed to the list manager, currently committee member Henry Bird, for checking you're a CSC member. You'll then get an email confirming your email address is on the list and explaining how to leave the list, should you want to. Messages you receive from the list will also include a reminder of how to leave the list.
The CSC committee will decide who may send emails to the members via this list. This will be a very restricted set of officials of the club, unless the club later decides otherwise.

How to join the list
To register your consent to receiving such emails, you should send an email with your name in the subject field and "subscribe camsail" in message text field.
The address to send it to is on the last page of the March 2002 newsletter (CSC News),which you should have received recently with your subscription bill. I plan to put full instructions of how to join the list, including the address, on the club notice board. (The address isn't given here because automated systems search websites for email addresses to compile lists to sell to the purveyors of junk emails.)
Please note that the instructions on the last page of the newsletter somehow missed off the last line explaining that if you wish to delete your email address from the mailing list, you send a similar email to the same address with the message "unsubscribe camsail".
We are grateful to Henry Bird, who has set up this facility for the club.
