Dale Winter and Tym Forder
have won the Mirror 2001 Eastern Area Travellers' Trophy

Eastern Area Travellers' Trophy

This is the second year running that Dale has won the series; last year he won with Andrew Davies as his crew.

Dale's father, Alan Winter came second in the series, with different crews in different races.

The best result for a helm under 16 years old was Ed Lachlan-Cope, whose crew for the series was Simon Martin.

The trophy is no stranger to the Winter houshold: Dale's two years of success in the series come immediately after the four consecutive years when his brother, William, won it! Although William had success in this year's Cam event (see right-hand column), he was unable to sail in enough events this year to qualify for the series.

Despite fog and no apparent wind, 11 crews turned up for the Cam event of the EATT series. Visitors came from Brightlingsea, Rutland and Tewsbury. The wind slowly increased during the day, with the third race finishing in a good breeze.

It was a close finish to the season, with Dale only just ahead of Alan before this last event of the season. Even the last race was a close finish between Alan and Dale, though the day was won by William Winter with Andrew Davies as crew. Dale and Tym were second and Alan came third with John Houlder, his crew for this event.

The Winter family really pulled out the stops in the second race. Despite being split between the two starts (the 11 boats were split into sequential starts of 6 and 5 boats), the first four boats to finish were all helmed by Winters. Marj Winter had two crews during the day, Emma Houlder and Tim Lachlan-Cope.
