CSC has World Wide Web site

As you can see the Cam Sailing Club has joined the Cambridge Freenet (or CamNet for short). This will allow the club to:

  • send and receive electronic mail (email)
  • put up pages such as these on the World Wide Web for members and other people to look at
  • allow the site manager to browse (look at and navigate around) all the World Wide Web pages held on the CamNet system.
On this page you will find information about:

These Web pages

As site manager, I have prepared these pages to form the initial basis of our CSC Web site. However, I'm new to producing Web pages - these are the first I've produced. I've no doubt there are errors and things that could be improved, but these will gradually be put right as friends and fellow members point them out.

Most of the pages were produced in the few days before the club's AGM on 6 Dec 96 and a demonstration version was shown then. Various corrections were made and a couple of pages added before making the site public.

The site is in two main parts:

  • pages on a blue background giving general information about the club that should not change too often
  • pages on a yellow background, forming CamSail News giving news about the club.
For more information about navigating the site and the background colours used, see the page on navigation.

These pages were made with an Apple Mac and SimpleText.

What is CamNet?

CamNet is a community enterprise and is mostly financed by sponsors. The idea is to make it free to anyone in the Cambridge area after a small admin fee to cover the cost of setting up your account (£20). There is no monthly, annual or usage fee. Anyone can join, adults, children, businesses, charities, societies, local government and so on. If you're interested, you can contact them:
