Foot & mouth disease update
following the 30 March
committee meeting

Review of previous decision

The CSC committee decided:

  • to continue dinghy racing, as during the last two weeks (see previous notice)
  • to discontinue the use of disinfectant.

Sailing above Bottisham Lock

The CSC Committee decided not to ask for any general restriction on sailing above Bottisham Lock. However, members are asked not to land on the banks outside the club's grounds and to take this into consideration when deciding whether to sail in adverse conditions.

Paths between the Club and Bottisham Lock

There were notices (and probably still are), at Bottisham Lock asking people to refrain from walking on the paths beside the river from which it is possible to watch the dinghy races. These notices have the Cambs County Council and National Farmers Union logos on them, but we think they have been placed by Waterbeach Parish Council. We ask members to observe them and have closed access from the club grounds.

Sailing below Bottisham Lock
(mainly cruisers)

Earlier in March the Environment Agency asked boaters not to navigate the Great Ouse and its tributaries. However, the Cambridge Evening News on 29 March reported that the 'advisory ban' on the Ouse had been lifted. Care still needs to be taken because access has been banned to certain river banks and paths (with the threat of £5000 fines). One case is that of the bank and path downstream of Bottisham Lock, on the left-hand bank, which as far as we know is likely to remain closed during the F&M outbreak.

The CSC committee asks members sailing below Bottisham Lock not to land except where they know there are no restrictions or where no livestock can graze, eg the Five Miles from Anywhere pub.
