CamNet is the new community information service provided at a very low cost to its users.
CamNet is part of the Cambridge community, and has been created and launched by local volunteers with sponsorship and help from local businesses.
CamNet (short for CAMbridge freeNET) provides
online information and services, including :
Membership of CamNet is open to anyone residing or working in or around Cambridge (although CamNet does not prevent anyone else who wants to join from doing so). It is attracting new members from shops, businesses, community groups, charities and Cambridge residents from all walks of life.
It's easy to join CamNet. There are no monthly fees - only a once yearly charge for the use of CamNet services. This is currently £20 per year. This represents exceptional value, and makes CamNet accessible to the majority of people in the area. CamNet is run as a non-profit maximising company which aims to provide a true community service.
Joining CamNet means that you can explore Cambridge lifestyles and services, visit shops, restaurants and local institutions on screen. You can check out their services and products, and communicate with other residents, friends, or anyone who has an e-mail address, anywhere in the world. CamNet pages are visible from anywhere, so if you create your own page it can be seen around the world.
Many local companies have generously lent support to this idea by providing services and backing. Your company too could sponsor CamNet.
City wide Internets are growing in popularity, and have a neighbourhood focus. By joining CamNet you also have the chance to contribute yourself, helping to shape your community and influencing the way communications will work in the future.
