Using the CamNet BBSThe CamNet BBS offers a text only interface to web pages and electronic mail for CamNet customers. It is ideal for use with computers that cannot make a true IP (Internet Protocol) connection to CamNet - this includes many older computers and dumb terminals, and also users who have slow modems as the amount of data to transfer is far less.
You can also access the BBS from anywhere where you can "telnet" out to the internet (at work for example).
The BBS runs the Lynx world wide web client and Pine e-mail software. You just need a VT100 compatable terminal emulation program for your computer.
Type bbs and hit enter to select the BBS service.
If you connect by dialing in to CamNet you first have to login to our modems (terminal server) then into the machine that runs the BBS. We're looking to change this so you only see one login.
The latest versions of Pine allow users to easily change their signature files. The signature is appended to every email sent. From the Main Menu select Setup then Signature.
Press Z to stop the download.
Telnet to bbs.cam.net.uk and login as usual. Set your telnet software to VT100 emulation.
