The Social Scene
If the sailing during the twenties was not of the highest order the same could not be said for the social side of the Club. In the middle and late 1920's visitors to the grounds on Sundays arrived by car, dressed to kill, the women in hats, silks and satins and sometimes fox furs (even if the day was sweltering!), and the men in creased white flannels and immaculate blazers. Ties were the order of the day. The Club's tie at that time sported red and yellow stripes on a green background. Sailing itself was carried out in caps, blazers and ties.

In 1924 what was to become a Club institution was started. Three Clubs, the Sailing Club, the Cambridge Motor Boat Club and the Cambridge and County Motor Club got together to hold an Annual Ball. Known as the Three Clubs Ball this became an important annual event on the Cambridge scene during the 1920's and 1930's. This was held in addition to specifically Club functions.

Also in 1924 the first "golf", what we would call putting, took place during the regatta week-end at Waterbeach. Golf on the main lawn was to become an important event, and later a full 9 hole putting course was laid out.
