Entertaining the War Wounded

In August 1917 a “regrettable incident” occurred in the Clubhouse. The details are unavailable, but it led to the Committee ruling that no ladies should use either of the Club dressing rooms for sleeping. The upstream room could be used for ladies to change for bathing between the hours of 11-12am and 2.30-3.30pm. The rest must be left to our imagination! This is however the first indication of ladies requiring better facilities at the club, and this in its turn led to the formation of the Ladies Committee which became a powerful body after the war.
