Sorry - ALL information below is changing during the
current building works

[ this page is www.rainbow-cambridge.org.uk/icca/termsandconditions.htm ]
please print this page and take it with you when you use Bharat Bhavan     links at end of page

Bharat Bhavan Cambridge is used by the Indian Cultural and Community Association ICCA, home page: www.colc.co.uk/cambridge/indian. Location & access of the building
Postal address Bharat Bhavan (previously known as "The Old Library"), Bharat Way, Mill Road, Cambridge, CB1 2AZ

Bharat Bhavan is a sacred space, sometimes functioning as Cambridge Hindu temple.
All rooms are smoke free, no alcohol or meat in the building. Please treat especially the altar with respect.

Cost for hiring Bharat Bhavan: £10 / hour or £25 for 4 hours additional £5 for kitchen use (price to be reviewed in 2006). For bigger events we may ask for a deposit or an additional cleaning charge. More about Bharat Bhavan.

A booking is confirmed, when the payment (cheques made out to the "ICCA") has reached Ralph, see booking details

Keys: need to be picked up from Ralph or Libra & Aries Bookshop (see below) or by other arrangement (contact details).

Front door: Please unlock top and bottom lock with the same key and open door with the chubb lock.

Light (as of Nov.'05): light inside entrance porch should come on automatically - if not, you need to plug the end of the cable into the socket on hall wall opposite the entrance.
Halogen lamps on tripods can be used as lights.

Central fuse boxes: in the corner left of the heating in the basement.

Heating:
If necessary, you can use 2 new powerful blue movable electric fan gas canons. They need to be plugged in , switched to "1", gasbottle turned open anticlockwise, then ignition button pressed and held down some seconds. Make sure you have trays under the gas bottles to collect melting condensation ice water.
Please notify Ricky (or Ralph), if one bottle is running out of gas.
The portable electric fires use a lot of electricity and are not very efficient. Please plug them into separate extension chords (otherwise extension chord fuses might blow).

Fire Extinguishers are in the hall near the entrance, basement and in the kitchen area.

The hall: Please keep the new dark grey carpet clean
The altar (left hand end of the hall) is a sacred space - please approach with respect and do not touch the deities. A curtain and sand stone statues (murtis) will be installed in spring 2006.
Use of television, video and PA only by special arrangement with Ricky, ICCA secretary (contact).
Window sun blinds should be pulled up when you leave to make use of passive solar warming of the hall.

Cooking: hopefully by May 2006 - see Building works update.
Please be aware, that according to Vedic principals the kitchen is considered a sacred space, which needs to be kept pure and clean.
Always use the sieve in the sink! The sewage blocks easily. Please bring your own towels if you cook. Please minimise your waste and bring full bin bags into the blue rubbish container outside (emptied only 1st Tuesday of the month). Please put everything back to it's place. We'll have 40 cups, 20 mugs, 20 glasses & more than 100 plates back from storage by February.

Cleaning utensils: a Hoover, washing up liquid, surface cleaning spray, wipes, black bin bags & hoover bags are...somewhere...

Rubbish: please minimise your waste volume and bring full bin bags into the blue rubbish container outside (towards the depot), which gets emptied only 1st Tuesday of the month. If you left food in the bins, please empty them before you go, replace with a new black bin bag (under kitchen sink) and drop them in the big blue container outside. If you create lots of waste, please take some of it home.
RECYCLING: please bring cleaned glass jars, metal tins and drink cans, and plastic bottles (milk & drinks & all with recycling triangle containing numbers 1, 2 or 3) to the RECYCLING DEPOT car park Gwydir Street / Mill Rd.

Tables & chairs chairs should be piled in max 8 along the entrance porch wall (use the chair mover),
tables go vertically folded, legs against the wall right & left of the new entrance porch.

On leaving the building: Please make sure the following are switched / turned off:
the heating (both switches!) & light in the basement, hot water (right fuse switch in white fuse box in basement entrance), electric fires, all lights & gas bottles.
Hall window sun blinds should be pulled up when you leave (except during hot summer weather).
Please leave the inner right door (towards dining area) open when leaving.
