PRESS RELEASE14th July 2005Inter-Faith Group is calling all people of Faith
|
After the bomb attacks in London, the Cambridge Inter-Faith Group invites all people of faith to a symbolic solidarity visit to the Cambridge Mosque (1 Mawson Road, off Mill Road) this Saturday for the short noon prayer at 1:15pm.
We feel sympathy with the vast majority of the Muslim community, when their religion gets abused by a tiny minority and is publicly connected with terrorism. How would you feel if your faith were repeatedly named and shamed for terrorist attacks?
In times of crisis, all people of faith are challenged not to follow the path of hate and war, but rather practise compassion, love and understanding.
As other religions, true Islam does not approve of terrorism in any form. Islam respects all individual rights, and states clearly that none of them can be violated, even if doing so would be in the community's interest. Islam orders peace, and the Qur'an demands from each true Muslim that he or she be a symbol of peace and support the maintenance of basic human rights. If a ship is carrying nine criminals and one innocent person, Islam does not allow the ship to be sunk to punish the nine criminals, for doing so would violate the innocent person's rights.
We hope that the world will become a happier, more just, and more compassionate place. For this purpose, inter-faith dialogue should develop as a necessary process, and the followers of all religions should find ways of coming closer together and assist each other. Respecting the universal values of humanity's common heritage may help us to solve many serious problems in a peaceful manner.
Please remove your shoes and wash yourself if you can before entering the prayer room of the Mosque (washrooms are inside) - ladies should cover their head.
