Cricket has been played on what is now signed as "Pymoor Recreation Ground" for most of this century. The site only took this name in 1996 when the Parish Council purchased the site. Before that, it had been used only with the permission of the land owner. As part of the same deal the Council bought an adjacent parcel of land so that sufficient space could be provided for a football pitch. Drainage work on the additional land was completed in Spring 1998 so now the village has both cricket and footbal facilities.
The photograph shows substantial Cricket Club building on the eastern side of the site. The new wing on the left of the building was built in 1998 and contains showers which have become a necessity now that football is also regularly played on the recreation ground. The Club Building is also used as a general purpose hall and social club. Its bar is manned by volunteers and open in the evenings and Sunday lunch times. (See what the club says about itself on the Village Organisations page.)
At one time playground equipment was sited on the western side of the playing field, but this had been removed before 1990. In 1991 a campaign by local mothers was started to buy new playground equipment. With the aid of fund raising events and grants from the Parish Council and others, new equipment was bought and sited in the north eastern corner of the playing field, behind the Club House.
