The Oxlode Fishing Lakes are a recent feature in Pymoor. They were created in 1992 when the National Rivers Authority carried out work to raise and strength the banks which run for 22 miles either side of the New and Old Bedford Rivers.
The picture here, taken in September 1998, is of the larger of the two lakes, taken from the north-eastern corner. It is deep. You could put two of the barns seen on the far side of the lake on top of each other and they would not break the surface of the water.
The larger lake was stocked with carp and the smaller one stocked with a variety of common fish. They are now used as a picturesque spot for both friendly and competition fishing.
To get to the lakes from Pymoor one leaves the crossroads (61k) and take the walk past the School (43k) and on to the lake.
