This is the northern end of Main Street taken in 1991. The building on the extreme left is the old Knife and Steel public house. The white building behind the tree on the left is the old Post Office and General Store. This appears as the dark building beside the garage in the picture of the crossroads.
Over the years the landlords at the village pub included Mr Wiseman, Mr Jordan and Mr Butcher. It finally closed its doors in 1966 and was bought by a local farmer and used as his home. Some villagers decided that they wanted to retain somewhere to socialise and it was at this time that Pymoor Cricket Club (34k) took its present form and obtained a licence and rebuilt its club house.
The old pub changed hands again and much modernisation and resoration work completed, although its dining room still has the metal bar fixed to the floor that used to keep players at the right distance from the dart board.
