Transport in Cambridgeshire

If you are interested in transport issues in our county, please contact Ivan Ivanovic (tda99tda@aol.com) who leads CPRE Cambridgeshire’s Transport Campaign Group. Amongst many issues currently being discussed by the TCG are the following:

Worrying transport trends in the countryside

In addition to Peterborough and Cambridge, all Cambridgeshire’s major market towns now suffer from severe traffic congestion at peak times; even though many are now by-passed. The insatiable growth in road traffic means that, at peak times, it is often at a standstill even on rural parts of the road network. Urgent and comprehensive action is need to tackle these trends.

Solutions for the Rural Transport Crisis

Years of under-investment have left many rural areas in Cambridgeshire lacking local services, including adequate public transport. Many of our villagers feel intimidated by the volume and speed of rat-running and HGVs.

Following consultation at local level, to which many local people including members in Cambridgeshire contributed, the CPRE has submitted a comprehensive list of measures to Central Government. Click here for details.

CHUMMS - The Cambridge to Huntingdon Multi Modal Study

The study by the Government of the East of England of the A14 trunk road between Cambridge and Huntingdon (known as CHUMMS — Cambridge to Huntingdon Multi-Modal Study) has produced the report of its Preferred Plan. This includes proposals for a major new road, enlargement of the A14, a guided bus system and a number of other measures.
