SUSTAINABLE LIVESTOCK BILL KILLED - SEND IN THE CLOWNS

Well, The 'Sustainable Livestock' Bill was presented on 23rd March 2010 by Peter Ainsworth and backed by a group of cross-party MPs has been killed off, not by intelligent debate on its merits or otherwise, but by being talked out by a small group of MPs (Tony Baldry MP and Jacob Rees-Mogg MP, take a bow).Click here for details (admittedly with a Labour slant) on their ludicrous, undemocratic behaviour.

This new law would have been a big step towards preventing UK meat and dairy production from destroying rainforests and leading to massive climate-changing emissions and called for an ambitious new plan to reduce the damaging environmental and social impacts of meat and dairy farming.

Here's a video outlining the sort of suffering and injustice that Tony Baldry MP and Jacob Rees-Mogg MP perhaps can't take seriously:

Yes, the government was going to vote against it, but there was probably sufficient support for the bill to get it through the Second Reading and into Committe before Tony and Jacob went into their double act and started talking and talking and talking.......

TRANSPORTS OF DELIGHT (NOT):

Not Really Suprising....
Another Railway Stitch-Up

Looks like the Department for Transport is planning to give train companies a financial incentive to cut train services. This unsurprising development could obviously be really bad news. The proposal is in The Future of Rail Franchising document which isn't even a formal consultation, because it's said to be only of 'technical interest' to the industry. The Government appears to be trying to sneak through this change without giving passengers - or anyone - a chance to comment.

WINDPOWER DE-BUNKING THE MYTHS

Don't believe the (anti) hype.

Not that Cambridge Residents Believe it Anyway:

Results of an Online Poll Conducted by the Cambridge Evening News Last November

SHOOTING OURSELVES IN THE FOOT

The UK has virtually no wind turbine manufacturing capacity and what we do have is possibly shutting down. 600 jobs are going in Newport, Isle of Wight, at Vestas, the largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world.

"Closure of turbine factory takes the wind out of Britain's low-carbon sails"

"Vestas to cut 600 jobs in Britain as wind turbine market is becalmed in Northern Europe"
