It’s been a lovely winter. Thanks to El Ninio (ask your Geography teacher) we’ve had no snow! I’m possibly the only person in the world that hates snow. I get up, see the virgin white blanket sweeping over the Gogs, the kids as they dash out of their doors cheering and laughing wrapped up all toasty so they don’t catch a chill and all I do is raise one eyebrow, snuggle back up under the comfort of my duvet and lull myself back to sleep. There I remain until the last drips of the thaw fall from the trees or the nearest pub opens (whichever comes first).
Still hopefully we’ve got through the worst without a single flake and now we’re rolling into Spring. So as the squirrels and hedgehogs have started their party early, it’s about time you did the same (sometimes it’s so difficult to get this round to the subject of The Junction, you know).
For gigs, this looks likely to be the busiest April since 1997! Picture this:- Bob Marley gives Jimi Hendrix a wink and a smile and in no time at all there is a love child on the way. This describes perfectly both the looks and sound of Ben Harper who’s playing on 19th April. This is swiftly followed on 28th by a duo named after the Californian term for computer nerds. Playing an instrumental mishmash of breakbeats, hiphop, acid and house. It could only be The Propellerheads.
For those about to ROCK! Tura Satana will be turning their amps up to eleven on 30th April. Leaving the pomp and lycra trousers of the 80’s well behind, they play a cross between hardcore punk and American thrash.
Alabama 3 devour country music, part digest it and then spew it up again as funky acid techno. If you like something different, be here on May 18th.
If you like something very different, Adzido 12 a collective of African dancers and drummers are here on 21st and 22nd April. The infectious energy of eight distinct dances from across the African continent captures the sensual essence of African movement. This is dance rooted in life.
This is just a snippet of what’s going on at The Junction this Spring. By the time you read this our new brochure will be out with full details of everything going on. If that’s not to hand check out the gig/club listings in this paper or phone our Box Office on (01223) 511511.
