SPIRIT Home
The Cambridge Centre |
The new "Spirit and Culture" Programme at St Edward's seeks to foster a spiritual culture for the new millennium. We are committed to Christ and celebrate the glory of the Christian tradition, but we seek to be open to that Spirit everywhere, not only in the Church but outside it, including other spiritual practices, and new movements in science, psychology and ecology. We are aware that the Church has often alienated those it seeks to serve, but hope that this programme will embrace spiritual seekers of all kinds in an atmosphere of warmth and openness.
A Place of Spiritual Refreshment: St Edward's is a beautiful and peaceful building, and we invite people to come in to compose themselves, meditate, pray, and go out refreshed. Midday prayers are said in the Church each day from Monday to Saturday, from 12.30 to 12.45 pm. The Church then remains open until 3.00 pm. (These arrangements may vary in December.)
St Edward's Church was given to Trinity Hall in the fifteenth century and enjoys a certain independence within the Church of England. Historically, it was the cradle of the English Reformation, and probably the first Church in England in which the Reformers preached. The Book of Common Prayer is still used at its main services, and our worship is enriched by its resonant language.
Open to all Retiring collection Followed at 6.30 pm by a Michaelmas Communion

Jill has pioneered the rediscovery of ancient vocal techniques for
healing and meditation, harnessing the transformative power of sound. This lecture
examines the sonorous universe from antiquity an sees how it relates to the findings of
modern science, as well as to our own healing and transformation individually and
collectively. We will experiment with the psycho-physical effects of breathing, chanting,
mantric and sonic meditation, and look at the wider implications.
Suggested admission £3.00 - 5.00
