The Boat Club Archives

The Boat Club Archives are going through some extensive re-structuring and updating whilst the book about the KCBC history is being written. This process will take until approximately 1 January 2000. Please bear with us until then.

When the Alumni Association was founded in 1993, a successful campaign to restore and increase the Boat Club Archives was also initiated. Today the Boat Club Archives consist of data held on this web page, and of paper-based materials housed in the College's Modern Archive Centre, where they can be accessed by any interested party.

Details of the items archived.	A Historic Senior Officers' Index 1858-1994, and full KCBC Committees starting 1995.	A fully indexed crews database spanning over 300 crews from 1858 to the present day.

Ongoing archive projects include:

writing a book about the history of KCBC.
correcting and adding to the existing KCBC crew index. Our primary source of information are the Captain's and President's books, and the Bumps Supper menu cards. To date we have compiled nearly 6,000 names stretching back to the Club's origins in 1858.
restoring the missing President's and Captain's books 1967-1994 by asking past Presidents and Captains to write up "their" years from memory.

Contributing memorabilia to the Archives

If, after browsing through our archives, you find any significant gaps that you could fill with your memorabilia, or if you would simply like to complete our records and have your Boat Club memorabila stored in an accessible and safe place, we would be delighted to hear from you. Depending on your instructions, any memorabilia sent to us will either be lodged in our Archives, or reproduced and then sent straight back to you. If you have any material that you would like to send to us, please contact us.

Some alumni have sent us stories of historic events and in future we hope from time to time to publish some of them in Henry's Eight, starting in the Michaelmas 1996 issue. If you have a great story (ideally with photos to go with it) to tell, do please send them to the Alumni Association Secretary.

Finally, we would like to thank all alumni who have shared their memorabilia and memories, happy and otherwise, with us. Please keep them coming!
