If you already know how to use the internet, look at the Camnet Home Page or e-mail to CamNet Charities' Coordinator.
To use the CamNet free e-mail service, all
you need to do is pay a one-off registration subscription to CamNet
and to wait for us to send you your e-mail address. CamNet is
unable to offer this facilitiy to a group so you will need to
nominate one of your members to apply for membership on the group's
behalf; also, we can only extend this special offer to people
who live within the Cambridge area. Once you have registered,
you can then use e-mail to contact all your members in Cambridge
who are already on-line or you can write to other groups who are
already using e-mail world-wide. Apart from the cost of a telephone
call (at local rate) when you use e-mail, this service is absolutely
FREE - other internet service providers charge a monthly
subscription.
CamNet can also offer you free Web space on our local server. If one of your members can create a Web page for you, we will provide you with a URL and put your page on the net. If you don't know what a 'Web page' or a 'URL' is, and you don't know how to write a Web page but would like to learn, we can find a volunteer who will show you how to do it and give you technical advice. We may be able to find a volunteer who can write a page for you. All you need is a PC, a modem, a telephone line and a CamNet e-mail address. If you don't have any equipment yourselves, our volunteers can use the facilities kindly made available to us in the basement of the CB1 cafe in Mill Road. Groups affiliated to the Cambridge Council for Voluntary Service, can use their on-line PC at Llandaff Chambers, No 2 Regent Street, Cambridge.
