Adnams are planning to drop their prize-winning Extra (4.3%), at least as a regular beer.
However their rarely-produced Mild is on at the Castle Inn (Castle Hill, Cambridge) at the time of writing.
New local brews: Electra (4.5%), Albion (4.4%)
and Pyramid (should be available at the Beer Festival)
from Milton
and IPA (3.6%) from City of Cambridge.
Peter and Jane Mauldon have sold their brewery in Sudbury to Steve & Alison Sims (Steve formerly worked for Adnams)
and who plan business as usual.
Ridleys Brewery (Chelmsford) has revived the old recipes for Wethereds and Fremlins Bitter.
Alchemy Partners, which was trying to carve up Rover Cars, is also backer to the InnSpired pubco,
which has just announced the closure of the thriving 176-year-old Ushers brewery (Wiltshire),
having bought the brewery plus its 550 pubs in July 1999 and promised no closure.
They rejected the buy-out offer from the brewery management.
With the unnecessary demise of King & Barnes, it's been another
torrid period for traditional breweries.
