The Six Bells, Fulbourn (Pubmaster), is functioning again after its disastrous fire late last year - there's a temporary bar in a function room whilst repairs proceed. The thatched roof and most of the first floor were destroyed and there was much smoke and water damage.
The Hopbind, Cottenham, has been refurbished, with hand pumps added. The Hole in the Wall has changed hands - a planning application is pending.
It's sad to see Greene King is closing The John Barleycorn in Coton, after a short-lived agency manager. In the late 70s/early 80s it had a high reputation for its food & beer.
The Old Red Lion, Horseheath, under its new management of Andy Downes, Steve Birmingham and Lucy Pickering now has as standard Wadsworth 6X, Marston's Pedigree and an ever-changing guest beer (all without sparklers). There's an impressive range of food on offer, served lunchtimes and evenings except Sunday eve ning. Snacks are around the £3-£4 mark whilst fuller meals are around the £6 mark.
The Prince Albert, Ely, now offers a full menu at lunchtimes (11:30-2:30). Main courses are reasonably priced at up to £4.50 and there are other offerings from soups to sandwiches - everything home-cooked. The pub won Greene King's Garden of the Year award for the Cambridge area yet again.
A recent visit to the Five Miles from Anywhere, No Hurry at Upware found five beers on handpump: Morland Old Speckled Hen, Fullers London Pride, City of Cambridge Hobson's Choice, GK Captain Christmas and "Five Miles Running River" (3.7%, presumably a re-badged ale).
