CamNet cannot afford to provide the same kind of telephone support as
Internet Service Providers who charge a monthly connect fee.
Nevertheless, there are several sources of help and information
available should you have any difficulties with connecting to CamNet
and using our services:
Via the web
If you can access the CamNet web-site, look at our
online documentation pages to see if
your question is answered there.
For the latest news on CamNet services, see the
Technical Support Bulletin. Further information from our
support volunteers, and software to download, can be found in the
Support Resources
section.
Via news
If you can access Usenet news, you can post questions to one of the
CamNet support newsgroups
(cam.net.support.*).
Via email
If you have working email, you can send your questions to
support@cam.net.uk where they
will be answered as speedily as possible.
In person
CamNet volunteers are available to provide training and advice in
CB1 Internet Cafe, Mill Road, on one or two evenings a week, usually
between 6 and 8pm.
Ask the CB1 staff for more details; they might
even be able to answer your question straight away themselves.
By telephone
Telephone support is provided on a part-time basis by CamNet
volunteers; this is currently available on Wednesdays between 1 and
4pm, telephone Cambridge 500723. Please don't phone with support
questions outside these times.
Obtaining updated FAQs by email, post or fax
Frequently asked questions documents on how to connect to CamNet
from your preferred operating system are sent out along with the
welcome letter when each new account is created. However, if you
joined CamNet before a FAQ list was prepared on how to connect
from your particular operating system, and cannot access the online
versions on the web-site, you may request an up to date copy:
- by sending email to
support@cam.net.uk
- by sending a large stamped addressed envelope to Cambridge Freenet Ltd., PO Box 321, Cambridge CB1 2TF
- by sending a one-page fax to CamNet support, Cambridge 500601
stating in each case which FAQ you require.
Use a public access terminal
If you're having difficulty connecting to CamNet from your own computer,
remember that you can access all of CamNet's services
from a number of public terminals
around town.
